Ex-Bluebird Capaldi Finds New Palace Home

Former Cardiff City defender Tony Capaldi has found a new club in Crystal Palace in the form of Championship rivals Crystal Palace.

The Northern Ireland International was released by the Bluebirds after failing to win a regular place in the side over the past two seasons. Although experienced at this level, Capaldi’s positional sense was worrying and he found McNaughton and Kennedy preferred at left back.

Since leaving Cardiff City, Capaldi was initially offered a trial at Plymouth, where he spent some time training with his former club. Following that, he arrived at Selhurst Park and features in a friendly for the Eagles. Despite ongoing interest from Plymouth, he has now signed for Palace and will look to get regular first team action.

Although we now have no specialist left-backs at Cardiff City, few were disappointed or suprised at Capaldi’s release. Kevin McNaughton will assume the left-back position until suitable cover can be brought in. We will need cover since McNaughton has a tendancy to miss matches through persistent hamstring and back niggles.
