Cardiff City`s attacking threat was nullified by a defensive but superbly organised Newcastle United team on Sunday. They closed us down effectively and allowed no space to our midfielders or full-backs completely negating our creative flair and attacking prowess. Whittingham, Ledley and Rae were over-run while the enigmatic Chris Burke enjoyed only sporadic forays down the right and was unable to stretch the Toon defence.
Cardiff City manager Dave Jones had no plan B, as is consistently a problem and we continued with our vain attempts to breach the Newcastle United defence. However, as Hughton brought on the likes of former Manchester United star Nicky Butt, and Cameroon International Geremi – we did replace the disappointing Peter Whittingham with our Premiership loan player Kelvin Etuhu.
Etuhu was a popular replacement and soon showed more presence, skill and forward intent as he harried the Newcastle right-back and made some powerful runs. Put simply, he appeared to want the ball more than Whitingham and tried to add some impetus into our rather laboured approach play. The Manchester City loanee recently staked his claim for the left wing berth at the Bluebirds (see HERE) – that`s a big ask with Whittingham operating there, £5m-rated McCormack to return and of course being the favoured position of Joe Ledley.

There is something awry with the Bluebirds midfield as has been the case for several seasons. Too often we are crowded out and teams can negate our tactics with ease. With two consecutive defeats and no goals scored, it would be easy to make wholesale changes for the Reading clash but this would be a mistake. The inclusion of Etuhu on the left would, in my view, not be a mistake and give the promising youngster a fair chance to impress – he`s done nothing wrong so far and looked dangerous.

Do you agree? Should Etuhu start?.or is Whitts a safer bet? Or maybe someone else on the left? Let us know!

Yep I agree, Whittingham was never there for capaldi to pass to meaning he either went back or chipped into the mass of Newcastle midfielders. Kelvin to start tomorrow
