Cardiff City’s loan signing from Manchester City has so far made 2 substitutes appearances and one start for the Bluebirds and has so far operated as a striker and direct replacement for Jay Bothroyd. He can also operate on the rigth side of midfield and provides a direct and powerful threat.

However, speaking to Cardiff City World, Etuhu has revealed his favoured position is actually in a wide role on the other flank:

“I`m happy to do what`s needed of me, but I particularly enjoy playing on the left, coming inside and attacking defenders.”

“I like to run with the ball at my feet, link up with other attacking players and get into the penalty area.”

“Hopefully I can do that this season and come out of it having improved myself.”

That position is favoured by Dave Jones who brought Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to fulfil that role last season while Ross McCormack has also been deployed in a wideleft position with the freedom to cut inside onto his stronger right foot.

It seems unlikely that Etuhu would be able to displace to important Bothroyd and he may indeed face an easier battle to oust Peter Whittingham from the left wing. Whitts is an inconsistent performer and has the ability to frustrate and delight in equal measures.

A front four unit of Bothroyd, Chopra, Etuhu and Mccormack is extremely strong at this level and should be able to maintain an impressive goal tally over the course of the season.
