Enckelman Released By Blackburn Rovers

Cardiff City goalkeeper Peter Enckelman has been released by his former club Blackburn Rovers paving the way for a move to Cardiff City.

Enckelman previously stated he was happy with the Bluebirds and the club recently confirmed they would be offering a permanent contract to the Finnish stopper.

Enckelman was a late addition to the squad after previous keepers Turnbull and Oakes failed to impress, and Kasper Schmeichel opted to return to Manchester City. The Finn made a good impact at Ninian Park, immediately shoring up a leaky defence and keeping a number of clean sheets.

Portsmouth seemed to identify a weakness in Enckelman and exploited it by testing him with numerous crosses. They were not well dealt with at all, and created several opportunities for Pompey – from one of which they scored.

Enckelman will compete with a young goalkeeper from the Premiership with Manchester United youngster Tom Heaton widely expected to link up with City.
