Eddie Johnson remains a pseudo-hero at Ninian Park with his every touch greeted by tumultuous cheers from the crowd as he secures his ‘cult-hero’ status.

The relief and appreciation shown as he grabbed his first ever goal for us against Doncaster Rovers a few weeks back was deserved at least for his work-rate but chances will always be limited for the USA man while Jay Bothroyd remains fit and in good form.

Last night, the game was already won when Eddie entered the fray, he barely touched the ball before robbing a Derby player (was it Nyatanga?) and bearing down on goal. Eddie had been short on confidence but somehow, this was never in doubt. It took an eternity for him to dribble un-opposed the 45 yards to goal but he waited patiently for the keeper to commit and clipped it over and wide – just inside the far post.

Eddie was delighted, the crowd appreciative as the on-loan Fulham striker doubled his tally for the season. In the last minute, Eddie was back on defensive duty and looked a little lost as he hooked a clearance backwards to give Derby another corner. From that cross, Eddie got the last touch for an own goal.

The striker now has two goals and one own goal for the season. However, every time he scores – we win by three clear goals.
