The mystery midfielder courted by Cardiff City earlier this week is now widely believed to be Dutchman Remco van der Schaaf.
Not a household name is must be said but he fits the description by Peter Ridsdale as the experienced, non-English, box-to-box midfielder with Champions League experience. Van der Schaaf was the player said to be ‘very impressed’ by our facilities.
He has been playing for Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch league, making 29 starts and scoring 3 goals. He began his career with Vitesse before moving to PSV Eindhoven when he played against the likes of Arsenal and Milan in the Champs league.
There are a number of clubs vying for his signature but a move to Cardiff City could tempt the Dutchman where he would link up with compatriot Glenn Loovens.
Remco van der Schaaf is out of contract shortly and would be available on a free transfer.
