Cardiff City manager Dave Jones is racking up a huge phone call as he attempts to spend the funds promised to him by Peter Ridsdale following the recent ticket initiative sucess that has boosted the clubs coffers with over £2m.

A target man has been needed all season to challenge Jay Bothroyd, while our defence remains a suspect area. However, midfield is nothing short of a crisis without Scimeca, Rae, McPhail and with Ledley struggling for form and fitness.

As such, we have been courting numerous options to shore up our midfield with Wigan Athletic man Ben Watson a leading candidate. He has just ended a loan spell with QPR, and the change of manager at Loftus Road has seen any plans to extend his loan shelved paving the way for the Bluebirds to jump in and snap him up.

Another candidate is Ireland International Steven Reid, the versatile ex-Blackburn Rovers man is in an identical situation having just ended a loan deal with QPR and would also be available on loan for the Bluebirds.

Also wanted are Manchester United starlet Darron Gibson, though that looks an unlikely bet given his sparkling form in the Premiership, Arsenal prodigy Jack Wilshere who is available but would prefer a loan to another Premiership club and journeyman Hayden Mullins whom Jones has long since targetted.
