Cardiff City will be without tireless Scottish duo of Don Cowie and Kevin McNaughton for the pre-season friendly at Forest Green Rovers tomorrow as both are suffering with muscle tightness after a difficult trip to Switzerland recently.

Those two players were the highest achievers on the ‘bleep test’ for measuring running and stamina and both are well known for their determination and attitude.

Both players are expected to return to training next week, but are left out of contention as a precaution as the Bluebirds prepare for the upcoming season. Darcy Blake is a likely deputy at right back with Mackay still chasing another defender as cover. The likes of Filip Kiss, Jordon Mutch and Joe Ralls are all capable of covering for Cowie in his central role while young winger Kadeem Harris will hope to feature and impress.

Rudy Gestede is thought to be out with yet another hamstring injury and may miss the first few weeks of the season.
