Do Cardiff City Need Another Central Midfielder ?

There’s no secret that Cardiff City are lacking a powerful striker capable of scoring goals – this does appear to be under address.

The departure of Aaron Ramsey has also left a hole in our midfield options. The youngster did not play all that many games last term, but shone when he did. He was also used primarily in a wide midfield role rather than his preferred central position.

Cardiff City are pushing to add a replacement midfielder to the squad but the only player to have talks so far has been Remco Van der Schaaf – a Dutch central midfielder. Is this really the position we need strengthening?

I would say no. In central midfield we already have McPhail, Rae, Scimeca while I would also like to see Ledley used in this position. Dennehy and Darcy Blake are young options to cover central midfield. On the left we have Whittingham, Parry and Ledley but on the right there are no natural options.

Whitts and Parry both do a decent job on the right, cutting in but it is highly predictable and with Ledley on the other flank we don’t get to the bye-line often enough.

I would prefer to trust our options in central midfield and boost the squad with a natural right winger. It’s been a while since we had one with Willo Flood and Malvin Kamara failing to nail down starting positions.

Do you agree? Do we need another midfielder at all? Will Scimeca be fit enough?
