Cardiff City’s on-loan goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos has apologised after his horrific error dropped two points for Cardiff City and gave league leaders Wolves a renewed hope. There were 10 minutes left when Dimi rose to collect an inocuous Kyel Reid cross, but he appeared to misjudge the catch and under no pressure lost control of the ball. AS it bounced he grabbed it but the assistant ruled it to have crossed the goal-line.
Konstantopoulos told the SW Echo:
“I didn`t think the ball crossed the line, but it was my fault and nobody else`s. I`m gutted, to tell you the truth, the players worked so hard to get back into the game.”
“I told the players after the game that I will make it up to them. I just looked around the changing rooms and they all had sad faces.”
Konstantopoulos is not under pressure for his shirt with regular stoppers Tom Heaton and Peter Enckelman out injured. He will start tomorrow’s home game against QPR and should get a warm welcome on his Ninian Park debut. He has quality and these mistakes can happen to anyone – the last thing he or the team needs is the moronic supporters picking up on his error and former Swansea City connection to give him a hard time.
