Cardiff City remain hit by injuries with a real defensive crisis on Malky Mackay’s hands with Ben Turner (hamstring), Andrew Taylor (calf)and Kevin McNaughton (thigh) all extrmely doubtful and likely to feature on Sunday at the earliest. Add to that the fact that emergency loan defender Simon Lappin is suspended due to a red card on debut – and City are in trouble!

Ben Nugent and Mark Hudson will again pair up in the centre, with Matt Connolly and potentially Adedeji Oshilaja or Declan John coming in on the flank. A flat-back three, or an emergency full-back role for a midfielder are also options (Whitts has played left back but would be wasted, Gunnarsson/Cowie contenders).

Jordon Mutch and Craig Bellamy have returned from foot and ankle injuries respectively and are pushing for recalls to the starting line-up but Kadeem Harris, Stephen McPhail and Nicky Maynard are all ruled out. Tommy Smith is recovering from a hamstring problem, but a mid-December return is most likely for the ex-QPR man.

Derby County manager Nigel Clough does not have the same injury problems to contend with, but will check on youngster Will Hughes, who picked up an ankle injury against Birmingham and is rated 50:50.

Jamie Ward (hamstring) is a longterm absentee for the Rams, but matchwinner Nathan Tyson could step straight in after his weekend heroics. Mason bennett has also recently returned to action after injury and is pushing for selection.
