Defender Blow For Bluebirds

Cardiff City fans today face up to the unfortunate news that a key defender could be out of this weekend’s home clash with Southend United.

Former Cardiff man Spencer Prior, a £600k capture from Man City and among the first signings of the Sam Hamman era, is struggling to make the game with a thigh injury sustained during a Carling Cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur recently. Although he has made his recovery in a reserve team game for Southend, he is unlikely to start at the weekend.

The defender enjoyed a mixed time at Cardiff, with the success of two promotions mixed with some calamitous personal errors from the centre-back, and the fans never exactly took to him.

Earlier this season, Prior made an extrodinary claim that he was targetted by Cardiff fans becasue he was English NOT because of his lack of judgement, proneness to make mistakes and a general preference to fall to the ground should a striker take him on. The laughable suggestion made by just one Englishman amid a massive majority of such players held in such high regard by Cardiff fans. Gary O’Neil, Darren Purse, Michael Chopra and Play-Off final Hero Andy Campbell (OK maybe not!!) – to name just a couple.

In fairness, Prior has progressed since leaving Cardiff for Southend in 2004 and had some solid games for City in their promotion season. Nevertheless, in our current goalscoring form – a characteristic Prior slip could present us with a lovely opportunity to return to scoring ways on Saturday.
