Dave Jones Could Leave Cardiff City For Hull City

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones is a serious contender for the vacant manager’s position at recently relegated Hull City after the departure of Temporary Football Management Consultant Iain Dowie – who failed to keep them in the Premiership.

After finally reaching accord with departed previous manager Phil Brown, the Tigers are now free to appoint a new manager and are keen on recruiting Dave Jones to the post.

Jones has overseen gradual improvement at Cardiff City on a limited budget whilst being forced to sell his best players rather than building future teams around the likes of Roger Johnson, Glenn Loovens and Aaron Ramsey. He remains the longest serving manager in the Championship and could be tempted by a fresh move after the removal of his close ally Peter Ridsdale – the gruesome twosome coming to a good understanding and being paid handsomely by CCFC.

While Jones’ tenure should be viewed as successful, he has clear limitations and is ever reluctant to admit or address them. Most notably, the lack of tactical imagination has cost us dear throughout his stewardship, rarely ever coming from behind to win or showing flexibility or adaptibility in response to other teams.

For that reason, and his fall-outs with players (Steve Thompson, Darren Purse and more recently the likes of Jay Bothroyd and Anthony Gerrard), his tendency to isolate fringe players (Warren Feeney, Tony Capaldi etc) and his grizzly and brash temperament, Cardiff City fans would not be devastated if he left.

The majority of Bluebirds fans feel Dave Jones deserves another chance at promotion, especially given the financial uncertainty of late – however, Jones’ commitment is less certain than previously when the likes of West Brom sniffed around him, if Hull City turn out to be serious – I can see Jones leaving and we could be looking for another manager….
