Cardiff are sweating on the fitness of Mats Moller Daehli after he was stretchered off playing for Norway on Tuesday.

Daehli had been a bright spark for Norway, he would have been left with a simple tap in had another former Manchester United youngster (as Daehli once was) Joshua King pulled the ball back to him, before he was carried off the field on a stretcher in the second half.

At the time it looked as though a nothing challenge had seen him collect a serious knee injury? The Norwegian Football Association insist that x-rays show no serious damage and he’s just ‘suffered a bang to the outside of his knee’, which we hope is the case but he might still face a spell on the sidelines.

Fortunately our next game isn’t for over a week and any swelling that might come up can ease with rest and he’ll be ready for our Championship return after the international break is over.

Norway will be in European Championship qualification action over the coming weekend, I believe, but I don’t think Daehli will be involved? We’ll have to keep hoping that there isn’t any serious damage.

Better news came for returning Bluebird defender Danny Gabbidon.

The 35 year old capped a great week, which saw him return to Cardiff as a player coach, by being handed a Wales recall as Chris Coleman brought him into the squad after Sam Ricketts had to pull out due to injury.
