Coventry set for Alexander swoop

Coventry City are keeping a close eye on Cardiff’s City’s stalled negotiations with long-serving goalkeeper Neil Alexander. The Scottish International last week opened talks with Cardiff with a view to extending his Bluebirds contract but Alexander rejected the offer in a move Dave Jones described as a ‘gamble’.

Cardiff have agreed to sign Irish goalkeeper David Forde in the New Year as competition to Alexander and with Alexander yet to agree terms the Bluebirds may be forced to cash in on the player in January rather than see him leave for free later on.

The 28 year old’s negotiations have now stalled but Alexander’s agent has dismissed any speculation of Alexander being greedy and pointed at his commitment to the club in the past and recently including his decision to take a wage cut when Cardiff were in dire financial trouble.

‘Neil is asking for a perfectly fair contract that reflects his status at the club. It is not in his mentality to be greedy or make unrealistic demands.’

The news has alerted Coventry City to Alexander’s potential availablity and clubs such as Norwich City have expressed an interest in the past. Alexander still appears determined to stay in Cardiff and remains hopeful a deal can be made.
