Coventry 0-0 Cardiff (Match Report)

Cardiff City brought in teenager Aaron Ramsey for Stephen McPhail, and Peter Enckelman for Michael Oakes. Ramsey was in the think of the action and impressed in the first half. He was constantly involved and rarely wasted possession and brought pace and guile to the team.


Whittingham saw a shot caught by Marshall in the Sky Blues goal but it was Coventry who had the best chance when Mifsud turned Roger Johnson and shot low only for Enckelman to pull off an excellent save.


Ledley and Parry saw shots saved while Dan Fox hit a free-kick wide, and Tabb shot tamely for the home side.



The second half saw a much improved Cardiff display, Gavin Rae forcing an early save from Marshall and only a brave challenge from Osbourne prevented Parry netting the rebound.


Cardiff were given a lift when dangerman Mifsud went off for Coventry but Joe Ledley limpe off soon afterwards with a hamstring injury.

Whittingham and Rae had shots but long periods of the game were scrappy and saw too many aimless long balls. However, some spells, mostly from Cardiff City, were bright and caused problems.


Moments before being withdrawn, Hasselbaink produced a rare moment of quality as his neat flick sent Parry through but Marshall was able to save.


Teenager Jon Brown made a late debut for Cardiff in attack but the game ended in a goal-less draw, the first in almost a year for Coventry City. I suppose it was a point gained, and ends the run of successive defeats, however – it was a must win for a side with serious promotion aspirations and we just don’t look ready for it.
