Dave Jones was hugely disappointed after seeing his side lose to a stronger Stoke City. Although he tried not to make excuses, they were all there again and we have plenty of work to do.

Jones told BBC Sport Wales:

‘They rely a lot on set-pieces.’

‘The keeper’s had a stormer.’

‘We’re on the first step of hopefully a long long chain.’

‘When you have chances you have to put them away, sometimes you can’t give other sides hope. You have to put the ball in the back of the net. ‘

Stoke manager Tony Pulis saw his game plan work perfectly and he knew Cardiff would struggle to break his big side down:

‘Cardiff played well in the first half and we knew it was going to be difficult, but we were on top for most of the second half.’

‘We are delighted with the result but it still needed that great double save by Steve from the penalty to keep us ahead.’
