Charlton Star Expects Tougher Cardiff City Test

Charlton Athletic striker Luke Varney is expecting tougher opposition this season as he and his team-mates head to Ninian Park to face Cardiff City. The Addicks beat us twice, and in convincing fashion last campaign with the home 2-0 defeat one of the worst witnessed in many years.

Ironically, that game led to wholesale changes in the Cardiff team with captain Darren Purse among those dropped and we immediately improved to go on a run of good form.

Varney believes the Bluebirds will prove a much sterner test this time around, the former Crewe Alexandra player said:

‘We did quite well against Cardiff last year, beating them twice quite comfortably. It won’t be as easy as that, I’m sure. They’ve had a good start and have a couple of players scoring goals.’

‘Every game is the same in the Championship, you don’t know what will happen, but we’re confident and looking forward to the match.’

‘But we go to Cardiff hoping we can win, and, after Ipswich, I’m sure we’ll be going there all guns blazing.’

The 26 year old forward has bagged two goals so far this season under Alan Pardew’s rotation policy. Varney will be looking to impress and nail down a permanent starting position.
