Championship Clubs Interest In Cardiff’s Capaldi

Cardiff City defender Tony Capaldi is attracting interest from fellow Championship clubs with Coventry City and Wolverhampton Wanderers both reportedly keen.

Capaldi was a free transfer signing from Plymouth Argyle last summer and whilst he has performed an important job for the side, he has failed to make a huge impact.

Capaldi is seen as a solid, dependable player but has yet to convince many Cardiff fans and he remains the weak link in our defensive line. He is not quick but allows attackers to run at him, allowing far too many crosses from the Cardiff left.

That said, he is a decent Championship player and we are already light on full-backs. I would view this potential transfer akin to that of Steve MacLean, another ‘decent’ player at Championship level – but one who didn’t impress particularly.

If Cardiff can secure a significant fee for Capaldi, they are likely to take it. However, Capaldi would still be a useful squad player next season as long as he is not an automatic first choice like this year.
