Cardiff’s Purse Set For Return

Cardiff City’s inpirational captain Darren Purse could be set for a timely return to first team action after recovering from a knee infection.

Purse’s knee ballooned after contracting an infection following an operation on his medial meniscus. The problem was painful and delayed his comback but Purse has been cycling and hopes to make his return.

Cardiff are struggling at centre-back with Glenn Loovens suffering a foot injury and Roger Johnson being knocked unconscious on Saturday. Purse’s return would be a major boost to the squad who also have injuries to MacLean and Scimeca.

Speaking on his icons.com homepage, Purse said:

‘I’m hoping to be back and making myself available for selection sometime by the middle of next week.’

Cardiff have a tricky looking Carling Cup tie to deal with (midweek) as they travel to in-form West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies look a strong unit and Cardiff’s centre-back unit without Loovens, Purse and Johnson doesn’t bear thinking about.

(Having thought about it, McNaughton and Gunter seems the most likely combination – worrying!).
