Cardiff City’s left sided player Joe Ledley was the unfortunate player withdrawn at half time as a woeful Wales went down 1-0 to a well-taken Stephen Ireland goal in the first ever competitive football match at the gigantic Croke Park.

Wales were terrible in the first half, and failed to create any meaningful attacks. They went down 1-0 near the end of the first half when Stephen Ireland broke through and neatly rounded the keeper before squeezing the ball in from a tight angle.

Something had to change and John Toshack opted to take off Cardiff-born Joe Ledley and replace him with Carl Robinson in a formation change.

The ploy didnt work and Wales lost the game although with some improvement in the second half. Cardiff City’s flying winger Paul Parry was an unused substitute.

The two players now look forward to another Euro qualifier against San Marino on Wednesday. The positive side for Cardiff fans is that neither player should return too fatigued for the vital Championship encounter against Sunderland next Saturday.
