Cardiff’s Jones linked with Charlton

Just a matter of hours since Iain Dowie was removed from his post as manager of Charlton Athletic, the inevitable occurred – Dave Jones is being linked with the vacancy.

Dowie has lasted only 12 games in charge of the Addicks but they currently occupy bottom position in the Premiership with just 2 wins and 8 points so far this term.

Dowie was appointed after the 13 year tenure of Alan Curbishley ended and Dowie has been unable to emulate his predecessor in keeping a relatively small club playing beyond its means.

Charlton have some good players and are an established side but the proposition is extremely unlikely to attract Dave Jones. He has been linked witha host of clubs already after transforming Cardiff City but it seems unlikely he would leave for Charlton. Jones deserves his chance in the Premiership and looks to have a decent chance with Cardiff whereas Charlton would require a massive rebuilding program and may well be relegated regardless.

Glenn Hoddle and Derby’s Billy Davies are the other candidates to be linked so far.

It is understandable given his success with cardiff,, however I would have thought he has far better opportunities with cardiff over the next couple of seasons and it would be great for him to stay and see through what he has worked so hard to turn into reality..
