Cardiff’s Jones In Violent Threats

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has revealed he too, along with Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale, has bee the subject of hate mail from supposed supporters of Cardiff City Football Club.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale is a public figure, reknowned for his part in Leeds United’s downfall – but he at least encouraged dilogue with the fans and gave his personal e-mail and phone numbers willingly. One could argue, this is asking for trouble from the idiots who are always out there.

The abuse of Dave Jones is different. He was challenged to fights, verbally abused and treated apallingly simply because he is the manager of Cardiff City. Those people have gone to great lengths to get the number, and further embarassed themselves by acting up.

It’s quite simply pathetic. Dave Jones did a very good job at first with City. His performances made him number one candidate for the vacant West Brom job – which he turned down.

Since then, he has not enjoyed such good times at Cardiff, and has been frustrated enough to act somewhat unprofessionally in comments (off the record) to the media.

Nevertheless, the only gripe we can have is him not performing as well as we want. He has gambled on Robbie Fowler, its pretty well calculated and may yet come off.

Jones told BBC Sport:

‘The abuse I’ve had from certain quarters here is something I’ve not had to endure before,’

‘I was getting invitations to have a fight. And you certainly don’t expect death threats.’

‘But it was only a tiny minority. Most of the fans have been brilliant.’

The reality is that these people are NOT supporters of Cardiff City. Fans are fans and behave accordingly, voicing concerns strongly when necessary but this is a different, and unwelcome, course of action from mindless thugs.
