Cardiff City’s promising youngster Chris Gunter is hoping to secure his long-term future to Cardiff City with the club currently in negotiations with the player’s agent.

Everton FC showed strong interest in the player over the summer, returning with improved bids to lure the youngster to Goodison. However, Cardiff held their resolve and hung onto a player with bags of potential.

The teenage right-back burst onto the scene last season, and won acclaim from fans, critics and his manager with a string of consistent and energetic performances. Although just 18, Gunter has made his debut for the Wales senior squad and has featured regularly for the Bluebirds this season.

Gunter told the Western Mail:

‘I would like to stay longer at Cardiff City so my agent and the club are in discussions.’

‘I`m enjoying my football here and have said all along I wanted to start building on what I achieved here last season and I think I`m starting to do that.’
