Cardiff City’s young defender Chris Gunter enjoyed a fantastic game for the Wales U21s yesterday as the young Welsh team battled hard but ultimately lost to France U21s.

Gunter was forced to operate in an unfamiliar role at centre-half for the encounter and repeatedly cleared his lines, reading the game well and intercepting French moves. Gunter helped the Welsh defense keep their French counterparts at bay but their resistance finally broke when a Neal Eardley own goal rebounded in shortly after half time.

It was a brave effort from the Welsh who were under constant pressure but acquitted themselves well, Chris Gunter especially prominant in defence.
