Cardiff City manager Dave Jones must be at the end of his tether having suggested in the media a solution bordering on blasphemy to halt the Bluebirds’ alarming loss of form.

Jones has hinted, and it is only a hint, that he is considering changing his beloved and trusted 4-4-2 system! It seems almost impossible, but Jones told the Western Mail:

‘I have been thinking about it over the weekend, what we can do differently.’

‘Maybe we could go one up front, five across or three at the back or whatever.’

The only deviance Jones has made to 4-4-2 in his time with Cardiff is playing Koumas behind a lone striker. That said, he may now be ready to take the ultimate step and ditch the conventional for a new formation.

Of course, the team that started on Saturday could easily be made into a 4-5-1 formation with Parry on the right, Whitts on the left and Ledley, Rae and McPhail playing centrally.

Another option would be playing 3 centre-backs (Johnson, Purse, Loovens) with Ledley/Capaldi and McNaughton as wing-backs. That said, every Cardiff City fan will be highly sceptical and we all expect the team to line-up as usual tonight, or at the very least with a flat back four.

A formation change during the game can also be helpful, as West Brom can testify having adapted to really test Cardiff and overturn a 2 goal defecit. Perhaps Jones is already working on potential changes, then again – probably not.
