Cardiff City’s new-look ‘stregth-in-depth’ squad will be given a stern test tomorrow with fitness doubts over a number of key players for the Bluebirds.

Kevin McNaughton joins Stephen McPhail on the treatment table and both players are unavailable. That means a rare start for Miguel Comminges at right back, the Guadeloupan replaced Kev on Wednesday and will again deputise at St Mary’s.

In addition, Roger Johnson and Gabor Gyepes are both doubtful with groin strains. City are desperately hoping one of them recovers to partner Darren Purse – otehrwise a youngster will step in, either Darcy Blake or Darren Dennehy.

Michael Chopra is the other doubt ahead of the game – struggling with a heel injury. He may play with a special mould in his boot and with a painkilling injection. Paul Parry or Quincy could start in attack if Chopra misses out.

For Southampton FC, Morgan Sneiderlein returns after suspension and is likely to be the only change for the Saints.

Veteran Paul Wotton is also pushing for a recall while Bradley Wright-Phillips (edit: thanks abesaint!) competes with David McGoldrick for the chance to partenr Saganowski in the Saints attack.

Striker Kayne McLaggon, who hails from Barry just outside Cardiff, is ruled out and unlikely to feature again this season.
