Cardiff City’s leading scorer Michael Chopra has been revealed as the Championship player who hit the most shots over the past season.

Chopra led the shooting rankings with an impressive 64 shots on target, 4 more than Freddie Eastwood (Southend Utd), Jamie Cureton (Colchester Utd)and former Bluebird Robert Earnshaw (Norwich City).

In addition, Chopra also hit the most shots off target as well – amassing 70 wayward efforts over the campaign. Sheffield Wednesday’s Chris Brunt was the closest contender with 66 shots off target.

Whilst never afraid to shoot, Chopra found himself coming deeper as the season progressed and he was starved of service. His 22 goals over the season were crucial to Cardiff and it became clear that if Chopra weren’t to score – the team would struggle.

The Geordie marksman hit the woodwork a total of 7 times this season with only former Cardiff loan player Jason Koumas (West Bromwich Albion) being unlucky on more occasions.

Cardiff City have been accused of being ‘shot-shy’ this term, with players such as Stephen McPhail and Steven Thompson in particular choosing to pass when a shooting opportunity arose.

At least the leading goalscorer was unafraid to shoot and credit must go to his team-mates for giving him the chances in many occasions. If Cardiff can sign another 15-goal striker in the close season – they could be in for a much more sustained push for promotion next time around.
