Cardiff City defender Chris Barker has left the club and joined fellow Championship side Queen’s Park Rangers.

Barker joined Cardiff from Barnsley in July 2002, making him one of Cardiff’s longest serving players – we paid £600k for his services.

Barker was voted player of the year before the arrival of Dave Jones but hasn’t had a look in since with Jones preferring more attacking full-backs than Barker.

He spend the whole of last season on loan to Colchester United, who ultimately finished higher than Cardiff, and formed an important part of the U’s defence making 38 appearances and impressing boss Geraint Williams.

Colchester showed an interest in signing Chris permanently but he chose QPR:

‘I had several options but the move to QPR excited me and I hope to help them challenge for promotion next season.’

Cardiff were searching for a left-back but Barker was placed on the transfer list by Dave Jones and has now been snapped up by The Hoops.

Barker did not score in any of his 159 league appearances for Cardiff City but was a dependable and dedicated servant of the club, helping us to the level we are at today.

Seems strange – he wanted a move to the U’s and there’s no fee involved – so how come he didnt end up there?!?

  • Aderyn las says:

Barker is all-round a better left-back than Ledley, Capaldi or Alan Wright – ludicrous he can leave for nothing with no better replacement

  • BomBom says:

Barkers wages off the bill is a load off though!
