ROSS TURNBULL: 5

A far from convincing debut as the keeper looked hesistant and lacking confidence. Some questionable punching decisions and erratic kicking will leave Dave Jones pondering his selection.

KEVIN McNAUGHTON: 6

Calm and collected, McNaughton had a quiet game and took no chances. He cleared his lines effectively but went long too often and lost possession. Little opportunity to attack but quietly efficient.

TONY CAPALDI: 7

A solid debut, he defended stoutly and got forward well, linking cleverly with Ledley on occasions. Little chance to shine, but impressed.

GLENN LOOVENS: 7

Stood up to the challenge well and covered superbly on occasions. No threat in opponents box but defending is his game and Liam Lawrence wont try to run through him again.

ROGER JOHNSON: 6

A poor game by RJ’s high standards. Brushed off the ball too easily and beaten several times. It was not his day but some well-timed interceptions and tackles showed what we will see in other games.

GAVIN RAE: 6

Made very little impression on debut. Tidyed up and tackled well but failed to impose himself and lacked the physical presence that Scimeca brings.

STEPHEN McPHAIL: 7

A good performance from the captain. Passing was better and he linked the play well. Some passes went astray but general McPhail controlled our game and looked lively.

JOE LEDLEY: 7 M.O.M

Amazing energy and drive, Ledley looks to be gaining confidence and drifted past players with ease. Looks comfortable in possession and was lively all game.

TREVOR SINCLAIR: 7

A good performance form the new boy. Showed touches of class and drove the play forward. Supported McNaughton well and looked our most threatening attacker. Set-pieces need some work and he faded slightly second half but a promising start.

STEVEN MacLEAN: 5

Missed his first ever penalty and looked starved of service and confidence all game. Not a target man and was outmuscled up front. Didnt hold the ball up well enough but showed signs of promise.

WARREN FEENEY: 5

Admirable determination and running, but Feeney was largely ineffective. Had poor service and mostly long balls but couldnt get a grip in the game and was replaced by Parry even when we were chasing a goal.

Subs:

PARRY: Tried to play ‘in the hole’ but couldn’t find the space needed to attack from deep and saw little of the ball.

WHITTINGHAM: Added drive to the attack but was in the centre and starved of space.
