Cardiff v Southend-Manager Reaction

Bluebirds’ manager Dave Jones lashed out at his underperforming strikers after just 5 goals in 12 games underlined a lack of quality in the City attacking play.

Speaking after the disappointing 1-0 home reversal to bottom club Southend United, Jones was obviously unhappy and pointed to a host of missed chances when in dangerous areas:

‘We defend as a team and attack as a team but the quality in the last third was poor.’

‘Our strikers need to start picking their socks up and start banging them in again. ‘There’s no point putting balls in the box if there’s no-one on the end of it.’

‘We had enough chances but we’ve had a lapse of concentration at the back and a sloppy goal but we should still have gone on and won. We’re still three points off fourth spot after a dreadful run in terms of winning games and we’re still hanging in there.’

Shrimpers manager Steve Tilson was understandably delighted with the result and singles out hero goalscorer Lee Bradbury for praise after his impressive finish won the points:

‘Lee had not scored for 11 games but he worked hard and it was a fantastic strike and I’m very pleased for him.’
