Cardiff City’s encounter with bottom placed Leeds United sees the Bluebirds missing their usual centre-back pairing or Darren Purse (back) and Glenn Loovens (ban). Dave Jones had searched for a loan player to fill the gap, but now looks set to use midfielder Simon Walton as a makeshift centre half alongside Roger Johnson.

The game also comes too early for midfield enforcer Riccy Scimeca, so Willo Flood or Kevin McNaughton will come into the side. Irish striker Jason Byrne should be fit to resume his place on the bench after returning to full training following an ankle knock.

For Leeds, dangerous winger Eddie Lewis is hoping to be fit after an ankle injury, as is Alan Thompson. The experienced duo of Gary Kelly and Shaun Derry are both expected to miss out but Kevin Nicholls and Westlake line-up in a still formidable Leeds side.

Robbie Blake, Tresor Kandol and Richard Cresswell will all be hungry for goals to lift Leeds from their plight and will fancy their chances against Cardiff’s makeshift defence.
