Cardiff Transfer Kitty Already Spent

After Cardiff City announced a profit for the last financial year, it really looked as though the club had turned a corner. However, we have been left under no illusions that Cardiff City cannot compete in the transfer market and have to scrimp and save wherever possible.

The arrival of Tony Capaldi on a Bosman free transfer, is the only inwards action to the club. We know there is some money to be spent – but not a lot!

Club chairman Peter Ridsdale has now admitted that a large sum (£5m) earmarked for signing new players – has instead been ploughed into the new stadium project.

Ridsdale told BBC Sport:

‘The club’s long-term future is only secure with a new stadium, so it’s the right way to spend the money.’

‘The message to the fans is that we don’t kick off until 11 August and I would anticipate we will have between five or six faces into this football club from last season.’

Although the promise of new faces is a welcome one, fans have begun to worry about the calibre of players we are chasing. To be fair to Jones and Ridsdale, they appear to be working flat out – and we have little idea who the targets actually are!

The £5m we could have spent on transfers would have seen us linked with the likes of Freddie Eastwood and Billy Sharp but the truth is that we cannot afford those type of players.
