It was being reported yesterday that Cardiff City had joined Aston Villa, Derby County and Wolves in the chase for Newcastle’s Grant Hanley.

The reports seem to have stemmed from a report by the Chronicle where they say that manager Rafa Benitez will be looking for around the £5.5million mark so they don’t lose out on what they paid Blackburn Rovers for him last summer.

Since arriving at St James’ Park the Scottish centre half has only made eleven starting appearances with a further five from the bench but six of those starts came in Cup competitions.

They report that Derby County are in pole position at the moment, but Cardiff join Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers in expressing an interest in the 25 year old.

It’s said that Derby have already tabled a £4million offer and any interest from us may depend on what ultimately happens with Bruno Manga.
