Cardiff City have offered a trial to Shelbourne striker Jason Byrne, cousin of Tottenham Hotspur forward Robbie Keane. The Eircom league player has top scored for the Shels and netted 15 goals in the season just finished.

The Irish club are currently experiencing financial difficulties and are set to offload their star player who could link up with fellow Irishmen Stephen McPhail and David Forde at Ninian Park.

The 28 year old marksman was voted PFAI player of the year for 2003 after topping the scoring charts and he scored 5 in the Champions League qualifying rounds in 2005 again winning the PFAI award.

His form in recent years won Jason a call-up and substitutes appearance under Brian Kerr for the Republic of Ireland National team. He won a more recent call-up under Steve Staunton but was ruled out of the squad by injury.
