Cardiff City are ready to seal a deal for Man City keeper Kasper Schmichael – bringing the highly rated stopper on a 1 month loan deal.

The son of legendary goalie Peter Schmichale has played a significant part in Manchester City’s fine start to the season but has been earmarked for a loan move by boss Sven Goran Eriksson.

Coventry City looked favourite for his signature but have been placed under a transfer embargo by the FA over a dispute involving the transfer of Leon Best from Southampton so Cardiff City prepared a bid for the player.

Cardiff have struggled for goalkeeper’s following Ross Turnbull’s inauspicious start and subsequent recall to Middlesborough FC while David Forde is considered inexperienced and Michael Oaakes has failed to impose himself thus far and looks safe but uninspiring.

A short term loan move is OK, but does not help solve the problems dogging Cardiff’s season so far – but at the moment, it’s a start and should help to shore up our leaky defence.

Interesting. Cardiff should never have let Neil Alexander go but should the Bluebirds pull off the signing of Schmeichel then i’d say thats a good move.
