Cardiff Stars to Miss Key Match

Cardiff City will be without two key players for the midweek game against West Bromwich Albion.

In-form striker Michael Chopra, currently top scorer in the Championship with 19 goals, picked up two yellow cards against Leeds. One booking for dissent, one for a high elbow after scoring a magnificent free-kick that eventually won the game for Cardiff.

Chopra has scored in each of his last 5 game, scoring 7 in total. He will be sorely missed against promotion chasing West Brom after providing much of Cardiff’s attacking impetus in recent weeks and is in the goal-scoring form of his life.

Another player missing will be midfielder Simon Walton who also received two yellow cards, the second a baffling decision for a dive when only the referee failed to see contact. Walton has stood in effectively during Scimeca’s absence and despite nopt enjoying the best of first halves against Leeds, he has become an important part of Cardiff’s side.

Jason Byrne and Riccy Scimeca (if fit) will step in, with Willo Flood standing by should Scimeca not make it. Cardiff will be hoping the absentees cannot hinder their promotion push and break their unbeaten row having won 4 and drawn 1 of the last 5.

What makes it worse is that 2 yellows were for dissent and diving, avoidable in virtually every situation
