Cardiff City’s emerging star Chris Gunter has cited Manchester United favourite Gary Neville as his role model.
Gunter is a promising young right back who has been around the Cardiff City first team for almost a year now despite being just 18. The youngster has turned in a string of impressive and consistent perfromances earning praise from many quarters. He has already represented the Wales National side and attracted summer interest from Everton FC.
Gunter is currently in talks to extend his Bluebirds contract and is ready to fight his way into Dave Jones’ side. Currently Kevin McNaughton is the right back, but could find himself dropped or switched to left back if Gunter continues to improve.
Gunter revealed his admiration for Sunderland manager Roy Keane’s attitude but pointed at England and Red Devils fullback Gary Neville as a key inspiration:
‘As a right-back Gary Neville was my favourite.’
‘You wouldn’t look at him and think he was an absolutely fantastic player.’
‘But he’s been in the team at Manchester United for around 12 years and with the success they’ve had, they could easily have brought in a right-back. He has stayed in the team and deserves a lot of respect for that.’
