Cardiff City captain Darren Purse is hoping for a new contract offer from the club. The experienced centre-back has one year remaining on his current Bluebirds contract after signing for £750,000 from West Brom as one of Dave Jones’ first signings.

‘Things are going brilliantly for me at Cardiff. It was a big decision for me to join them as I was dropping down from the Premiership with West Brom but it’s been fantastic and this season has probably been one of the best years of my career so far.

‘I’ve only got a year left at Cardiff but I like to think there will be a new contract on the table in the next few months.’

Purse re-affirmed his commitment to Cardiff City FC in the recent January transfer window when he brushed aside rumoured interest from Premiership clubs Watford and Wigan FC to concentrate on securing promotion for Cardiff City.

Purse cites Dave Jones as the major driving force behind the club’s success:

‘Cardiff manager Dave Jones has been superb for me. I’ve got a lot of respect for him and he’s one of the main reasons I joined the club.’

‘He’s an excellent manager and I’ve got a great relationship with him.’

Purse has shown a lot of bottle and put himself on the line regularly for the club. His leadership qualities are missed when he isnt playing, and his influence on younger players (most obviously Chris Gunter this season) has been exemplary. At 30 he certainly has something to offer the club for the foreseeable future and has been an integral part of Dave Jones’ success to date.

Not really good enough for this level, the number of times he charges out of defence and is turned….

Disagree. Gotta be worth a squad place and i’d have no problem calling on him anytime.
