Cardiff City have agreed a deal to sign an emerging young prospect after the Wales Schoolboy player opted for the Bluebirds over local rivals Swansea City.

Matthews is a full back and highly rated despite his young age, he was a suprise inclusion to the squad for the weekend trip to West Brom and it appears that Dave Jones is keen to allow the player experience of matchday squads and travel, as he has done in the past for Darcy Blake and Aaron Ramsey, both of whom have now broken into the first team squad in their own right.

Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale is excited about the player’s future, and told the South Wales Echo:

‘Adam is a top prospect, but he`s still at school.’

‘Adam is such a good player. We have already agreed to give him a professional contract on his 17th birthday – and that`s rare in football.’

Cardiff already have a young full-back, Matt Smith, hoping to break into the first team and emulate the rapid rise and progress of another academy youngster, Chris Gunter.
