Cardiff ‘s QPR reaction

The unbeaten home record is over and Cardiff`s lead at the head of the Championship is down to goal difference. It was a really poor performance from Cardiff and the statistic that no shots on target over the 90 minutes is worrying when you have the league`s top scorer and should be full of confidence. What was just as disappointing was that on a slippery greasy surface no-one shot low and skidding to test the keeper`s handling.

Cardiff looked hurried all game and only McNaughton seemed to want responsibility for the ball. Cardiff were unable to get their widemen into the game, but with QPR pressing, there were gaps for Cardiff to exploit but the passes went astray or overhit.
Credit to QPR, they executed a pressing gameplan effectively and restricted Cardiff. Their night was complete when they snatched a winner in the dying minutes, Cardiff deserved the point but will be bitterly disappointed with the performance as well as the result.

Chris Gunter had a promising debut, he was often helped by Purse or Scimeca coming short to receive and he showed some nice touches going forward. He showed moments of inexperience allowing Lee Cook space to cross but mostly kept one of the Championship`s hottest prospects quiet.

Nobody had a particularly poor game but the entire performance was lacklustre and a bit flat. Chopra tried but received no service and became more and more frustrated Malvin Kamara came on for the final 10 minutes but barely had a touch and that was indicative of Cardiff`s night as they failed to get going in any sort of rhythm and were made to look ordinary by a strong and workmanlike team whose work ethic and team spirit rivalled that of the Bluebirds.

This was the second time Cardiff failed to score this season and the first time at home, QPR have been scoring for fun recently but Cardiff could not breach their leaky defence. It`s nowhere near time to hit the panic button yet but a new player may be needed to inject new blood and ideas into the side and it will need to be a re-invigorated Cardiff side that take to the field the next time.
