Cardiff Player Ratings Vs Charlton

Kasper Schmichael – 6

Not too much to do really, little chance with the goals but he cleared effectively behind defence. Kicking was too long really, there was no support anywhere near!

Chris Gunter – 6

Some nice touches and assured in possession. Some of his distribution was poor but at least tried to get forward..

Darren Purse- 5

Glenn Loovens – 6

Recalled after suspension, he looked fairly solid but too many headers went straight up rather than away, not put under severe pressure but failed to impose himself.

Tony Capaldi – 4

A really poor first half saw him subbed, he lacked confidence, any direction and determination. Wayward passing, though he restricted Lloyd Sam effectively. Offered nothing in attack, and hardly convincing in defence.

Paul Parry – 6

Struggled for possession and had little to aim for with crosses. Always the ball to feet and never in front of him..

Stephen McPhail – 5

Oh dear. The passing was woeful, misdirected and far too easy for Charlton – most of the time floating invitingly towards them. No forward momentum and always passes from a stationary position – never driving forward.

Gavin Rae – 6

Rae did OK, he covered more ground than anyone else and tried to inject some pace and momentum. Simple passes were not wasted and he did try to keep the ball down and play. Involved in all of our (sporadic) moves but missing through several long passages of play.

Joe Ledley – 6.

Had several chances to cross or shoot, always chose to cross but never beat the first man – not a great day for Ledley but he stuck to his task well and looked untroubled at left-back..

Steve MacLean – 5

Contributed very little and rarely got on the ball. He did drop deeper looking for possession and made some decent tackles but up-front he was never a threat and looked a little lost.

Steve Thompson – 5

Penalised regularly but had no quality ball. Little support from midfield and the big man was largely passed by.

Substitutes:

Peter Whittingham- 6

Looked really good on the ball and sent a good effort narrowly wide. However, he wasn`t really in the game and was given no space out wide.

Hasselbaink – 4

Given half an hour but I can`t recall one meaningful contribution. The service and support were poor, but we can expect a little more.
