Vital Cardiff speaks to Plymouth Argyle fan Paul Williams about Cardiff City’s first summer signing Tony Capaldi:

Will you miss him?

I doubt that Argyle will miss Capaldi. He wasn’t in the team for the last
third of the season and the team coped very well. He has a laid back style that may not appeal to some fans, however he never has a poor game. He’s one of those players that is not outstanding but does
a steady job.

What’s his best position?

He can play at left back or left midfield, his best position is left midfield because he can’t really tackle. He does play left-back for Northern Ireland though.

What sort of player is he / What are his stengths?

He’s not a tricky left winger because he has no pace but he’s a ‘team’ player who keeps ‘shape’. Capaldi has a huge long throw that was used to great effect when Argyle were a long ball team under Tony Pulis last season.

Cardiff operate with a small squad – is TC injury-prone or likely to pick up suspensions?

Capaldi isn’t injury prone and will not pick up many suspensions because he
doesn’t really get stuck in.

Might PAFC try for Chris Barker as a replacement?

I doubt if Argyle will replace him. We have a very good young left back who
did well last season plus there are a few other players who can play left
back. Argyle also have plenty of cover for left midfield.

I am grateful for Capaldi’s contribution, especially helping Argyle win the
Division 2 Championship three years ago. But the last few months turned sour
with Capaldi turning down offers of a new contract and letting his present
deal run out.
Argyle are supposed to have turned down a £200,000 offer from Sunderland in
January in the hope that Capaldi would stay at Plymouth.
Capaldi wanted a contract extension last summer but didn’t get it when other
players did, so I guess he made up his mind to leave last year.
