Cardiff City have missed out on the former Sunderland striker Jon Stead who has joined Sheffield United for a fee of £750k.

Cardiff moved for Stead after been outpriced in the race to sign Luton Town striker Rowan Vine but have now missed out on alternative target Stead. Cardiff had an offer accepted for the ex-Blackburn forward but Stead understandably opted to join Sheffield United’s push for Premiership survival.

Cardiff have added just one outfield player to their squad in the current transfer window and were desperately hoping to secure a striker before this weekend’s league clase with Southend. Manager Dave Jones will now turn to other options with Crewe’s Luke Varney though to feature in his plans.

dont think he could play up-front with Thompson, whereas Vine could. Not too sorry to miss out on Stead.
