Cardiff MF Duo ‘Too Lightweight’ ?

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has switched to a new midfield partnership in recent games and, despite initial concerns, it seems to have paid dividends.

Gavin Rae has been dropped, to accomodate the inclusion of Peter Whittingham on the left wing, this means that the industrious Joe Ledley can move infield and boost the creativity and drive from a more central position.

Stripped of the services of Riccy Scimeca, our impressive ‘midfield enforcer’ through a persistant groin injury, Jones turned to a Gavin Rae and Steve McPhail partnership which never really took off.

McPhail recently admitted his own form had been unacceptable, but he kept his place and he and Ledley now make-up a cultured left-footed engine-room for Cardiff City. The two played together at the end of last season, but this is the first time with serious pressure on the team and its performance, with the manager under scrutiny aswell.

Both are classy players and very good passers, but do they have the right balance in such a crucial area? Neither is the aggressive ball-winner or gritty performer that is usual in the mould of Scimeca, Boland or more famously Roy Keane or Patrick Viera.

These doubts have arisen, but, the parnership has certainly done its job, with 2 wins from 2 and 5 goals scored to just one (defensice error) goal conceeded.

What are your views, would you rather see Rae in there? Is the Ledley/McPhail partnership too soft? Let us know!

Flood is a wideman normally, i think he’s tenascious enough but maybe not the physique to suit central midfield
