Cardiff City have been nominated in the best goal of the season (so far!) in the Football League Awards.

The goal nominated was Cardiff’s first goal of the season when an impressive, flowing team move saw Riccy Scimeca pull the ball back from the by-line where JOE LEDLEY was oncoming and hit a low drive screaming past Colgan.

Brian Howard’s consolation goal for Barnsley in the same game also made the 5 goal shortlist, his stunning individual effort not enough for Barnsley as they went down 2-1 to Cardiff City.

Goal of the Year – sponsored by Mitre

Paul Brooker – Swindon v Brentford(22nd April 2006)

Greg Halford – Colchester v Sheffield Wednesday (18th October 2006) (now moved to Reading)

Brian Howard – Barnsley v Cardiff (5th August 2006)

Joe Ledley – Barnsley v Cardiff (5th August 2006)

Dave Nugent – Burnley v Preston (21st January 2006

Stewart Thomson, Commercial Director of The Football League said:

“A look at the five goals on the Goal of the Year shortlist demonstrates that there really were some stunning strikes in The Football League during 2006.”
