Cardiff Man Hints at Swans Switch

Cardiff City striker Warren Feeney is enjoying a new lease of life during a loan spell at local rivals Swansea City.


Feeney was brought to Cardiff (from relegated Luton Town) at the end of last season as a last ditch effort to get into the play-offs and with Chopra sidelined by injury. It looked a gamble for a striker not renowned for goalscoring. The move was duly made permanent ( a hefty loan fee was already involved)and Feeney started the season as first choice striker with Steve MacLean.


Endeavor and work-rate were evident from the Northen Irishman and its difficult to criticise such an honest and hard working forward but he failed to make an impact – missing a glorious opportunity to equalise against Coventry City.


After falling down the order at Ninian Park, Feeney opted for a loan move to the faltering Swans and the form has picked up of late for Roberto Martinez’ men. The Jacks have won 4 consecutive matches including a 5-0 drubbing of Leyton Orient (a heroic display by Stuart Nelson saw Cardiff restricted to a 1-0 win when we met the O’s).


Swansea City are now sitting pretty atop the Coca-Cola League 1 while Feeney has scored in 3 consecutive league games and has 4 goals in total from 3 starts and 3 substitutes appearances – pretty good going.



It seems that Feeney may have found his level and while he struggled in the Championship – League 1 football seems to suit him and his recent comments to the Evening Post hint towards a permenent move West for the striker:




‘Swansea are a good club who are on the up and I’m starting to feel at home now.’

‘It’s a good squad with a lot of enthusiasm and I’m really enjoying my football at the moment. Anything permanent will be up to the two clubs, but it’s going to be hard for me to get in at Cardiff with Jimmy and Robbie there.’




Either Feeney will leave for the Swans and we can bring another player in, or he will return refreshed and with renewed confidence – a win-win situation for Cardiff City. With MacLean out for a lengthy period, and Matt Green out on loan – we could find ourselves short of options.


For the moment, Feeney remains a Bluebird – would you rather it stayed that way ?
