Reports are linking Cardiff with both Ipswich’s Daryl Murphy and Crystal Palace’s Dwight Gayle. Personally I feel it’s unlikely that we’ll sign either but I’ll humour these claims anyway.

Wales Online has gone as far as saying that they understand Russell Slade has made the 32-year-old Irish striker Murphy his main priority this summer as he looks to tempt the 27-goal striker to the Cardiff City Stadium.

A fee of £4m has been mentioned but it’s also been spelt out by Mick McCarthy that Ipswich don’t need to sell and aren’t looking to sell either.

The other target mentioned has been Crystal Palace’s Gayle, but with a fee of anything from £4.5m up to £6m being spoken about by various newspapers in the past 24-hours or so the 24-year-old is even less likely to join us, particularly as he could have Premier League options.

Slade’s been told that he’ll be backed in the transfer market but he’ll not be backed to the tune of £4m to £6m for either of these strikers and if we paid out a combined £6m for the pair, which we’ll not, it would be a major surprise. Even more so with Vincent Tan saying he wants a Premier League return but isn’t going to pay through the nose for it!
