Cardiff City have made enquiries regarding several Sheffield United players with boss Neil Warnock trying to clear the way to add fresh faces to his squad in January.

The Blades are surpassing expectations in the Premiership and harbour realistic survival aspirations but Warnock wants to add fresh blood to his squad in January.

Cardiff City are looking to strengthen their threadbare squad and are being linked with several of the Blades players who are on the market.

On-loan left-back Alan Wright could make his move to South Wales permanent after a solid spell filling in for Kerrea Gilbert. The 35 year old is out-of-contract in the summer and would only get a 6-month Cardiff deal but is likely to feature much more regularly in the Bluebirds team and try to win an extension.

Strikers Geoff Horsfield and Ade Akinbiyi are also targets for Cardiff. Akinbiyi enjoyed a successful season at Championship level last term and could get goals for Cardiff whereas Horsfield is more of a target man and more a replacement for Kevin Campbell. Either would add more experience rather than firepower to the Cardiff attack !

27 year old midfielder Paul Ifill is reportedly also a target. The ex-Millwall winger is out-of-favour at Brammall Lane but could command a fee.

Dave Jones has a list of 40-50 players he would like to sign in January, and all enquiries are at initial stages so far. Jones should have some money to spend but it is unlikely to be much and he will need to spend wisely to improve the squad in all areas.
