Cardiff City have missed out on their top transfer target after being turned down by the Premiership goalkeeper they had been chasing.

Talks occurred with the player some time ago and suspicions arose when no deal was announced. The longer the silence, the less likely to sign and that has proved the case and we are left with just David Forde on the goalkeeping staff.

Vital Cardiff City understands that the target was Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright. He had been released by The Toffees and now looks set for a move back to former club Ipswich Town.

It is a major disappointment for The Bluebirds who must now act swiftly to bring in another goalkeeper. With several former targets now having wrapped up deals elsewhere – a season-long loan may provide the answer to Cardiff’s goalkeeping problems with Newcastle United’s Tim Krul a possibility.

Peter Ridsdale confirmed the snub from our long-time target, but at least the wait is over and we can now switch to other options.
